Light So Undeniable

I tapped through my Instagram stories and lingered on a shot my friend captured — a fishing boat shored on the Tien Sa Beach. Hannah and her husband are stuck in Vietnam on their honeymoon, lasting more than 3 months because of coronavirus travel restrictions.

While they’ve made the most of their time with cloudy ice cream and a lantern festival on a river, I know they’re ready to fly home. I’ve been encouraged how they’ve noted God’s mercies in the delays, acknowledging His purpose in extra time to pray and more opportunities with people they meet.

Hannah, a talented photographer, captioned this picture: “Keep looking for the light (recent photography advice I received).”

“…And just look at this light.” @haanarphotography

As I contemplated light, art, and words, I knew I had an answer to a question I had been asking, even though I’m not a photographer. “What if I run out of words? Out of ideas?”

A dreaded thought for an aspiring creative.

Sometimes I’ve written a piece or something and then I think, “I’ve just put it all out there. I’ve exhausted my vocabulary. That’s all I’ve got. My best is behind me.”

But then I think of the source and subject for the majority of my writing. Christ and His truth. The glories of His attributes are inexhaustible.

In my first post on this blog I wrote, Solomon’s famous words, “There is nothing new under the sun” are ancient themselves. I don’t claim to have anything new besides His mercies that are new every morning.

This still holds true.

What hope — we’ll never reach the end of His Light and goodness. We’re finite (and so are our ideas), but He illumines the darkness forever.

“No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the Lord for an everlasting light, And your God for your glory.”

Isaiah 60:19

He’s inexhaustible. Meaning His teaching content is inexhaustible — I’ll always have wonders to declare.

“Behold, God is exalted in His power; Who is a teacher like Him?” –Job 36:22

As these thoughts stirred, I remembered a song I heard last year with an attribute of God that made my heart brim with worship. But that word that bursts out in the chorus? I couldn’t recall it.

Incredible, indescribable, in-explainable.

All true of Him, but those weren’t the ones from the song. I googled fragments of the lyrics to no avail.

Unattainable, incomparable, unstoppable.

Amen. But not the word. Later I tried singing the song for Luke. Nope, still not ringing any bells.

Un-matchable, infinite, unchangeable.

Finally my brain landed on the lyrical word I reached for.

“Which is harder to believe that You don’t exist
Or that You orchestrated all of this?”

UNDENIABLE.

Oh, for enough words to praise the Creator. His creation bursts with glory. In 6th grade science I constructed a cell model out of jello, jelly beans, and strips of gum. Ever since then I’ve gained a huge respect for a single cell. And if I venture underneath a starry sky and hold up the tip of my index finger at arm’s length, the space it covers represents at least a quarter of a million galaxies.* His Light declared everywhere…both in the heavens and in my heart.

There are moments that I doubt You

Blind to the beauty that surrounds me

I try to push away the need that I’m needin’ proof

And this struggle that I have, it ain’t nothing new

But the Evidence is piling up,

You change my heart, isn’t that enough?

You give me life that I can’t take credit for

Call me to walk through an open door

Undeniable, You are, You are

Unmistakable, You are, You are

You’re the bright and morning star

But still You speak to my heart

Undeniable, You are, You are

Toby Mac, Undeniable

Are you a photographer, painter, surgeon, landscaper, barista, preacher?

Look for His Light.

May we never stop learning from our Teacher.

The light from a recent walk…over on my side of the world.
