The Gospel Is For Every Day

Today I’m writing on a topic I have a lot of passion for. It’s because the gospel truly has changed everything about me, and I want to encourage you to look to Him, too. My second reason for this post is to introduce a collaborative article. To do this, I desire to define the gospel and talk about why it’s not just for the day you get saved.

What is the gospel? According to the Bible, the gospel is the good news that — even though we have sinned against a holy God and deserve separation from Him — He provided a substitute (His own Son) for the punishment our sins deserved. What love! Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died on the cross giving His blood, and rose from the dead on the third day. Now because of His work, we are invited to place our faith in Christ. It’s even more than just a rescue. When we deserved God’s wrath, instead, we receive grace upon grace!

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

I’m declared righteous because of Jesus Christ…not because of my own merits.

It’s simple but deep.

If Onlys of Spring

March and April gave me an opportunity to breathe deep and to silence the endless what ifs with an even if stance. Even if my fears come true, God is still good and powerful. Now those what ifs still tickle occasionally, but I’ve gained ground in trusting the Lord. The forecasted calamities didn’t happen to me anyway. The time I spent worrying added not an inch to my height nor a day to my life, just like Jesus promised.

Now we’re marching into May with “grace in our hearts and flowers in our hair”* and a new horizon. I’ve shifted from fighting worry … to combatting discontentment.

The Splendorous Bride We Slander

On July 6th I was the bride. They let me sleep in late. I had special time with my parents. Friends brought me plates of food and ran to the store just to get more hairspray. I was waited upon hand and foot with so much care while I waited to be united with my groom.

Bright Lights with Passports

I want to be stronger and shine brighter.

In high school, I always looked forward to Wednesday nights because it was our discipleship group for young ladies — called Bright Lights (founded by Sarah Mally). This stands for “Being Radiant in Godliness, Holiness, and Testimony” with the theme verse, “Let no one look down on your youth, but be an example of the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (I Timothy 4:12) Continue reading “Bright Lights with Passports” →

Little Flocks

Today is September 25th, and I began a new prayer journal.

It’s a thick hardcover with gold-rimmed flowers on the front. Writing the first page felt like signing a contract because I’ll probably be dedicated to this one for two years, thanks to its size and small lines. Were there any themes I wanted?
